The Middle - Jimmy Eat WorldHey, don't write yourself off yet It's only in your head you feel left out or looked down on. Just try your best, try everything you can. And don't you worry what they tell themselves when you're away. It just takes some time, Little girl, you're in the middle of the ride. Everything, everything will be just fine, Everything, everything will be alright, alright. Hey, you know they're all the same. You know you're doing better on your own (on your own), so don't buy in. Live right now, yeah, just be yourself. It doesn't matter if it's good enough (good enough) for someone else. It just takes some time, Little girl, you're in the middle of the ride. Everything, everything will be just fine, Everything, everything will be alright, alright. It just takes some time, Little girl, you're in the middle of the ride. Everything, everything will be just fine, Everything, everything will be alright, alright. Hey, don't write yourself off yet. It's only in your head you feel left out or looked down on. Just do your best (just do your best), do everything you can (do everything you can). And don't you worry what the bitter hearts are gonna say. It just takes some time, Little girl, you're in the middle of the ride. Everything, everything will be just fine, Everything, everything will be alright, alright. It just takes some time, Little girl, you're in the middle of the ride. Everything, everything will be just fine, Everything, everything will be alright. |
Jimmy Eat World is an alternative rock band from Mesa, Arizona, that was formed in 1993. The band is composed of Jim Adkins, the lead singer and guitarist, Tom Linton, back vocalist and guitarist, bassist Rick Burch and drummer Zach Lind. One of their most popular songs, The Middle, is about being yourself and not letting people tell you what to be. Being good enough for others is not what matters, being yourself is what gets you farther in life. At the beginning of the song, it says "And don't you worry what they tell themselves when you're away," which is saying that wasting time worrying about whether or not people will not like you or talk behind your back is a waste of time, and you should focus on yourself and finding you. The lyrics "Hey, don't write yourself off yet, it's only in your head you feel left out or looked down on," and "It just takes some time," go to show that being completely individual isn't going to happen right away, so you shouldn't stop trying. The American Dream cannot be achievable until you stop and realize what you're capable of. What YOU'RE capable of is much different than anyone else, which is why if you aren't an individual you will struggle with finding what you can achieve in life. This song is telling of how you need to wait, be patient, because you may not know who you are as a teenager, but you will later. "You're in the middle of the ride," as a teenager you're in the middle of the ride of life; not knowing who you are but trying to figure that out.
