The Promise of a Pencil by Adam Braun
The Promise of a Pencil is a biography/life tips book written by Adam Braun about how he built up his non-profit organization Pencils of Promise, which builds schools around the world in places that cannot afford to built their own, therefor their children are not getting a proper education. Adam Braun went to college at Brown and ended up at a very big and successful law firm in New York City. What gave him the whole idea about "Pencils of Promise" is when he was in college, he went on a semester at sea which took him around to Asia. When he was at an Asian country, he met a little boy who he asked, I you could have anything in the world, what would it be? The little boy responded with, "A pencil". Adam was surprised that all this little boy could have wanted was a pencil. Adam gave the little boy a pencil. Later on in life, when he was working long hours every single day at the law firm, he wasn't feeling complete. He decided to launch his, little at the time, charity called Pencils of Promise. It started off slow, but eventually grew into a massive non-profit organization with donations and people supporting it. Adam quit being a lawyer to be a full time supporter of his non-profit and event planning, visiting prospective school sites and more. Throughout the book, Adam gives little tips on how to succeed in life and business. Adam Braun is an individual because he took a leap of faith in himself and quit a very well paying job to do something that he had a passion for. Not many people would quit a stable, well paying job to go and work at something they didn't even know would succeed. Adam is inspiring because he has dedicated his whole life to helping every child get an education, because everyone deserves one. Not everyone has it in their heart to give up all they know, but that is what made Adam an individual.
